Initial Thoughts: The Jones Flagship snowboard is something special. This is a high-end, purpose specific snowboard that has incredible lift and float through powder while also being a phenomenal all-mountain carver. The spooned nose and tail provide a very catch free feel, which balances well with the regular camber and stiff flex
Powder: From the directional shape, spooned out tips, and gradual sloping nose to help glide and float; this board sets a heavy standard for how a powder board should perform. When entering powder with speed you can feel the board plane on top of the snow and actually feel it push you up and back ontop if you try to lean forward. The Slash Nahual has been my favorite powder board up to this point, but the Flagship is on top without question. If you’re going to spend some time in the deep stuff you will not be disappointed on the Jones Flagship.
Carving & Edge Hold: Definitely the standout during the test of this snowboard. The progressive sidecut and short tail naturally provide hard arcing aggressive turns that get more fun the faster you go. As far as edge hold goes the Flagship is in ranks with the best of them. I was able to lay out my eurocarves so low that my belly was practically dragging the snow and the board would still just lay a nice, clean line through the snow as I carved. This board really begins to shine and show its personality at mid to high speeds. The magne-traction also provides excellent control on ice which is very practical and re-assuring.
Flex: This thing is stiff! I would say about an 8/10. This provided amazing response and adds to the appeal of this board in my opinion.
Stability: The stiff flex and regular camber shape provide extreme stability, even at very high speeds over uneven terrain. No matter what situation you find yourself in on the mountain you can count on the Flagship staying strong under your feet.
Butters: Buttering took a bit of getting use to on this board because of the stiff flex; it doesn’t create that bend you get when you butter on a softer more freestyle oriented board but it was actually loads of fun for butter tricks. The stiff flex allows you to really lean over the tips and balance on the nose or tail, while the spoon shaped tips provide a seriously catch free feel.
Jumps: This thing isn’t really made for park jumps, but I sent a couple and it was fun! Go for it!
Pop/Snap: The Flagship did a really good job of loading up tension and releasing it like an explosion. The pop was noticeable on ollies but really stood out the most when slashing on groomers. If you are going fast and slam on the brakes with your tail, it is going to load up a lot of tension and provide some serious snap as soon as you release the pressure. This is actually a lot of fun once you figure out the feel for it.
Switch: This board rode comfortably switch, and still felt nice and catch free. However you can’t get as aggressive with your carves, the sidecut excels more when riding in the proper direction.
Recommendations: This is the snowboard for the rider looking for the high-performing all-mountain ride that thrives in the deep stuff but can also show you a heck of a time on the groomers and around other parts of the mountain. Due to the stiff flex and aggressive nature of this snowboard I would recommend the Jones Flagship snowboard to intermediate riders and up.
