One of the most fun things you can do on a snowboard as you are getting around the mountain on groomers and cat tracks is butters, or flatland snowboard tricks. The amount of tricks you can come up with are almost endless. Having a certain style of snowboard will make butter tricks much less difficult, and also more stylish. Generally for this style of riding you will want a softer flexing, true twin snowboard; and in this post I have highlighted five of my favorite choices.
" The Bataleon Fun.Kink features a 1cm longer nose outside of the contact points, giving it Bataleons '99% Twin' shape for added versatility. You'll also find 3BT - Triple Base Technology - on this snowboard combined with a regular camber profile, and a soft flex. The end result is a playful, yet versatile snowboard that provides an insanely catch free ride and easy pressability. Perfect for butters. "
" The Capita Horrorscope is a soft flexing snowboard with a flat to rocker profile, and I would describe it as a jib specialist. This means taller presses, and a board that is capable of handling the most technical of rail trick wizardry. Fortunately for us most rail tricks translate into butters in some form or another, so the Horrorscope is a natural choice. "
Arbor Westmark Rocker
" The Arbor Westmark Rocker made the list because of its unique combination of profile, flex, and sidecut. The board offers a complementary blend of stability and butterability. You'll find an elliptical rocker profile, medium-soft flex, and grip tech side cut in this snowboard, as well as Arbors other high end tech such as real wood topsheets, 360 degree edges, and stamped sidewalls. This will provide durability, catch-free butters, decent stability, AND superior grip on ice. "
" The Salomon Villain is a playful camber dominant snowboard with a bit of rocker in the tips. This board is going to offer awesome slow speed maneuverability on the approach to features, a soft flex, and solid pop. I chose the Villain for the butter list primarily because of its catch free feel in the tips and easy presses. Overall, the Villain is going to perform all over the mountain at moderate speeds and provide really fun butters. "
" The Headspace is a playful, yet very capable snowboard. It is still the only snowboard in production to include a camber dominant profile, asymmetrical sidecut, and additional contact points in the form of Magne Traction. Combine that with a medium-soft flex and you have an incredible balance of capability and playfulness. This thing is going to rip and grip turns on all snow conditions, offer solid pop and stability, and still be very pressable. It runs GNU's C3 camber profile which is camber from tip to tip, but also has a mellow rocker between the feet. This creates nice flex zones for great looking presses and butters. "
